GOD'S UNDYING LOVE FOR US

YOU ARE PRECIOUS IN MY EYES AND GLORIOUS, AND.... I LOVE YOU.   __IS 43:4

Because God loves his people,  he promises redemption and restoration.  It is great that God loves us as we are,  often in dire need of restoration:  "Everyone who is named as {his} whom {he} formed and made" (Is 43:7).  A widow once told me that her son had been mean to her,  messed up his life with dope,  deserted wife and child, and gone off to some big city.  Then she said, "But I am his mother and I still love him!"

I am precious in God's eyes!  "It is I, who wipe out ...your offenses"  (Is 43:25).  We do have reasons to be grateful!.

LISTENING

WOE TO HIM WHO CONTENDS WITH HIS MAKER;  A POTSHERD AMOUNG POTSHERDS OF THE EARTH!

___IS 45:9

When the will of God is clear,  I should pray with Jesus, "Your will be done!"  (Mt 26:42)

Most of the time,  however,  God's will is meditated to me through other human beings. When dealing with Bible and Church statements, I obey.  But God may speak elsewhere also.  Asked little Mary:  "Papa,  why do you talk so mean to my mammy?"  "Wisdom...gave ready speech to infants!"  (Wis 10:21).  Do you listen?.

BE A CHALLENGE TO OTHERS

EVEN IF YOU SHOULD SUFFER...ALWAYS BE READY TO GIVE AN EXPLANATION TO ANYONE WHO ASKS YOU.

___1 PT 3:16

Those who suffer will "put to shame" (1 Pt 3:16) their defamers-they will lead them to instant reflection and ultimate conversion! Christ did this for us.  He "also suffered for sins once,  the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous,  that he might lead you to God" (1Pt 3:18)

"Therefore,  since Christ suffered in the flesh,  arm yourself with the same attitude" (1 Pt 4:1). When suffering, be a challenge to others-but with gentleness and reverence!  (see 1 Pt 3:16)

FREEDOM AND DEPENDENCE

THEN AFTERWARD I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT UPON ALL MANKIND.   __JI 3:1

Contemptorary theology is more aware than previously that we don't know how the interaction between total dependence on God as Prime Mover and our own freedom and responsibilty should be conceived.  I know that "in him [God]" I "live and move and have [my] being"  (Acts 17:28),  but also that I am a free person,  responsible for whatever I do and don't do.

I make my decisions accordingly,  and when lacking the stamina to move I pray,  "Father of light,.... and by the flames of your wisdom open the horizons of our minds"  (Mass of Pentecost)
